You need a free account for the editor, so your projects can be saved and picked up again on another machine. The free browser tools, like transcription and the file converters, work with no account at all.

The render runs in your browser, so the finished video is put together on your own machine rather than in a render queue. Media you add to a project is stored in your account, which is what lets you close the tab and pick the project up on another device. The free browser tools are different again: they process the file in the page and upload nothing.

Editing and preview work in any modern browser. For exporting, Chrome or Edge are the most reliable, because they have the widest support for the browser video features the export depends on. Firefox and Safari work within their own limits.
